Why Doesn't Everything Come With an Instruction Manual ... Part 88
"Don't you have connections all over the place?"
"Yes, but for some reason the underground is rather quiet."
"I was there recently and that place was deserted."
"That is definitely not good."
"What are you trying to say?"
"I'm saying that an empty underworld is the first sign on the calling of the horsemen. If we don't bring back Dracula there is no stopping this."
"Wait a second, Dracula can stop the calling of the horsemen?"
"Yes. The previous horsemen made a pact with him. He was in charge of keeping the earth is some sense of order so the horsemen didn't have to do their job."
"Why would they want to do that? Isn't destroying worlds kind of their thing?"
"I take it no one told you that being a horseman is a one time gig."
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"Wiping out a civilization is not an easy job. Each horseman puts all of his life energy into the destruction and in turn dies with the civilization. The previous horsemen didn't look forward to the void, so they found Dracula and assigned him with essentially permanent babysitting duty of the human race."
"So they essentially didn't want to do what they were created to do."
"They weren't created, but chosen. Much like you and your friends and with Dracula gone you are closer and closer to being called to complete your assigned duty."
"We were never assigned a duty."
"Not directly, but by consuming the energy of the previous horsemen, you essentially took their assignment."
"Well, shit."
"What I'm trying to say in a nutshell is that if you want to survive, you have to bring back Dracula and you have to bring him back fast. The emptiness of the underworld means that the forces of hell have been summoned to prepare earth for your coming. We do not have much time."
"Shit. Why doesn't this job come with an instruction manual or something."
"The employees don't normally get 'laid-off' so suddenly. There's an initiation period before taking a responsibility such as this."
"Dammit. Well, what are we still doing here? We have an apprentice to find."
"I need to turn the lights off first."

What The Hell Are All These Squiggly Lines? ... Part 85
"What are we doing back here?"
"I needed some place to go and this is kind of the only place I have."
"Why did you choose this place? You have mountains and crystal caves and undiscovered abandoned ruins, but you choose to meditate here."
"It's the only place that makes sense. No one can find me here. If we were playing hide and seek, I would never lose."
"It is not my job to question your decisions. I was just curious to know why we were back ....... here."
"It's still your home. You don't have to refer to it as some foreign place."
"This has stopped being a home for us some time ago. We like to refer to it as our prison."
"I understand. I apologize for bringing you here then, we will leave as soon as I am ready."
"No need to apologize, you didn't force us to come here. We are here voluntarily to update you on our assignment."
"Assignment?"
"The scrolls, sir."
"Oh shit, all this training made me completely lose focus. What news do you have?"
"We have them in our possession."
I felt as if this was a joke. All the time I spent getting these scrolls and Raven just assembles them and brings them forth. If it was anyone else, I wouldn't have believed them but Raven doesn't seem to have a sense of humor. That is definitely something to work on.
"Wow, in that case could you please take a more humanoid form. It feels rather weird to talk to a panther."
The transformation was almost instantaneous. The form Raven took was rather peculiar. The female form looked familiar but at the same time no name came to mind.
"Is this satisfactory?"
"Yea thats great, who's form is that?"
"It is a combination of the forms of our people and the forms of the population that we encountered on our journey."
"You really know how to put on a show."
"Thank you, now are the lights off for a reason?"
"Lights?"
"Yes, the lights. We're going to go look if the training rooms have been repaired and turn the lights on. We apologize for interrupting your meditation."
"It's perfectly alright, but before you go, could I get those scrolls?"
"Certainly."
Raven walked off into the distance. After Raven disappeared from sight a clicking sounds started to echo throughout the room. The clicking paused and the door closed shut. I assume Raven took the form of the old man for old times sake. The lights came on shortly after the door closed and I laid out all the scrolls and the heart of Dracula before me. It took several minutes of looking in amazement at this collage before I realized that I had absolutely no idea what the scrolls had to say. I can't believe I had half of them all this time and never bothered to look at them. Why can't something be easy for once. I needed to find someone who knew what was on these scrolls. Just as the thought took place in my head the doors behind me opened and the clicking of the cane resumed to echo in the room. It was a hell of a chance but it was a chance that couldn't be wasted.
"We see you finally looked at those scrolls."

And so the story continues ... Part 84
It has been several months since I began my training as a horseman and I must admit, it was rather entertaining at the beginning. Animals waging wars and humans battling to their dying breath with nerf guns is entertaining but does eventually get boring, but no matter how fun everything has to come to an end. As I killed of the remainder of the cows that were winning in yet another cow/horse mini-war I decided that it was time to head back and that my powers were under enough control for now. I set out to the underworld.
Which was surprisingly empty. I was rather confused, everyone was gone. No minions in sight, no generals, no advisors. Every room was empty and still as if no one had entered them since we all separated. I couldn't help but feel lost and confused. What has happened since our departure? Where is everyone? Why is the underworld so ..... dead? Questions flooded my mind and the lack of answers brought a fog to my head. I was walking aimlessly from room to room hoping to find any sign of life or death but none appeared. Even the news held no answers but did have an interesting bit on some exploding nebula that might create a second sun. Sounded like a complete load of shit to me but who knows, anything is possible.
After awhile I gave up my search and went to my room. Nothing had been moved, even the crumbs from something I ate before leaving.
It felt like a dream. It could only be described as a vivid scene constructed by my subconscious and I wanted to believe that it was but everything was so real. I wanted to deny what I was seeing but it was right in front of me. The empty void that used to be so full of death. The stillness is surreal in comparison to the busyness of the place before I left, granted it was going through a change in management. I knew I couldn't stay here, it was too quiet, too still.
I pulled a portal from my jacket. The motions have almost become fluid from practice. It was the last place I wanted to go but at the same time, it was the only place to go. All I could do was close my eyes and step through the portal.
The rushing currents welcomed me. It seemed like the whole city was aware that I had arrived, or maybe it was just the souls of the previous residents in the pocket of my jacket. It was nice to feel welcomed nonetheless, even if it was in the most solitary place no one knows exist.
I opened my eyes to complete darkness. I hadn't anticipated the time. I wasn't tired but felt exhausted. I pulled out something that glowed and a mat to sit on. I sat and began to meditate.
The world slowly drifted further away, all the cares were dissolving and any thought of the mission that was ahead siphoned out of my mind. It would be an understatement to call the feeling bliss. All I knew is that I didn't have a care in the world and that I was alone in the most secluded place on Earth. So I did the only thing to do.
I waited.

Nerf wars and suicide wishes ... Part 83
I was lost. I didn't know what to do. I had the power of War. What am I supposed to do with that. Ramsey and Zac had left as well leaving me alone in the underworld. I went ahead and portaled out since there was nothing left to do in hell and I needed to get used to these new powers. I arrived somewhere in Europe. I didn't exactly know where I was but decided to go ahead and practice here. A couple of strangers walked by as I emerged from the alley. I didn't catch the language they were speaking. I was still slightly sick from eating the heart but contiuned on with trying to find somewhere to practice these new powers.
I later found a large pasture of cows and horses. I thought it would be interesting to see such a battle. I focused my energy and suddenly the horses began to run circles around the cows.
Shortly before I left, the horses were being trampled by the herd of cows. After the cow/horse fight I portaled to an office building. It was still rather early and no one has had their lunch break yet. I began my plan. Every person who left for lunch came back with a large shopping bag. No one questioned these bags due to my control over them.
As the day came to an end and the time for all the office prisoners to go home neared, every one disappeared and reemerged as a small army with Nerf weapons. The battle broke out as the clock stroke 5:00 pm. The acting performed by these office workers was rather impressive. People were falling all over the place, guns were being taken from "corpses".
As the army fell, the boss emerged from his office and took out the remaining peons still standing. As the boss finished his massacre, all involved started to come back to their senses, I did not stay long enought to watch the aftermath, my work was done. I ported back to hell and met up with Raven.

Shouldn't This Taste Like Almonds ... Part 79
The room was very well accommodated, but I couldn't call it a room.
"This pales in comparison to my previous abode but a change of scenery is always nice."
"I find this a much better alternative to killer robots."
"You young ones, always complaining."
"I'm sorry but I'm not the biggest supporter of large metal humanoid things running at me and trying to kill me."
"What did you expect a tickle fight."
"Well, it would have been nice, but ultimately useless since I'm not ticklish."
"Well just think of it as a very intense tickle fight."
"You're kidding right? Right? Anyways what forms can you take?"
"Whichever you choose."
"Can I get like a catalog or a short sampler or sorts, but before that. You need a name. Well not exactly need .... What is your name?"
"Which one of us exactly?"
"Damn it, you just love to make things complicated. Ok, you need a name. A universal name, but something bad ass ... How about Raven?"
"You possess us and our knowledge. Any name you provide, we will gladly acknowledge."
"Alright if you don't mind it. You will now be Raven."
At this point the old man collapsed and a raven stood in his place. He stood around for a few seconds and began to transform in to many different forms. Some of the more notable transformations within the collection were a white tiger, a beetle, an elephant that surprisingly fit in the room/palace and he also went trough perfect representations of Zac, Stewart, and Ramsey and finally ended by transforming into me.
"Well that last one will come in very handy, but for the time being just choose whichever form you like best. You can talk while in animal form right?"
Raven transformed into an elegant black panther and spoke in his usual well mannered voice.
"Certainly sir."
"You don't have to title me, just call me Alex or The Dude or something anything but Sir."
"Certainly, sir."
"Eh, whatever I'm gonna go plan how to bring back Dracula."
"I didn't know he could be killed."
"Well, you haven't exactly spent too much time around Stewart."
"That I certainly have not."
".... Wait, you know Dracula."
"He was in a very similar situation as we were, and like we have mentioned before. Any ally is an ally."
"Well you can be a very helpful part in retrieving the scrolls that Zac currently beholds."
"I will get right on that sir"
I sighed as the black panther made his way out of the room. I didn't know how he expected to find out where Zac was but I'm sure he knew a way and will find information within his unlimited connections in the hell we have currently found ourselves stuck in.
I decided to go to sleep and let Raven do the detective work. I will piece a plan of action as soon as I have most of the scrolls.
I had little time to sleep. One of Grief's underlings, or so I presume, awoke me with a loud banging on the door trying his best to demand me to meet everyone in the dining area. The last thing on my mind was the fact that I had no clue where the dining area was, but the minion was waiting outside my door to escort me. Stewart, as always was seated across from Zac and I caught a glimpse of Ramsey shaking hands with Grief and make his way towards the table. Why was Grief here, isn't he on vacation? I decided to pay no attention to it and took my seat at the table. Stewart was very giddy and Zac did not looked like he wanted to be here. Ramsey sat shortly after me and Stewart snapped his fingers. Several demons appeared out of nowhere and placed a covered silver platter in front of each of us. I was severely confused and I am quite sure Ramsey and Zac were not exactly completely aware of what was happening either. Stewart couldn't wait any longer.
"Let's begin."
He tossed the cover to the floor behind himself and took the heart that was laying on the plate and almost swallowed it whole. I was even more confused than before. I looked at the heart before me and the memory of the half of Dracula's heart still somewhere in the confines of my jacket came rushing back to me. I didn't know what to do.
"Uhh, what is this?"
"War's, Pestilence's and Famine's hearts, respectively."
"Why their hearts?"
"Because we are the next horsemen. You must eat the heart to gain their position."
"I don't know if I like raw heart."
"Just think of it as a nice rare steak, only slightly chewier."
"That does not make it any better than it was. Can it be slightly roasted or something."
I fiddled with he heart and poked it with the fork, I took out of my jacket. Zac seemed to have an equally hard time with the idea of eating someone else's heart.
"Is this absolutely necessary."
"Yes. It's required for us to take their throne."
I grumbled and begun cutting up the heart into almost microscopic pieces. I provided everyone with utensils and condiments they required.
"Just eat the damn thing." Stewart mumbled while still trying to chew the heart of death.
"How's the taste of death?"
"Kind of bitter."
"Really? I would have thought it would taste something like almonds."
"Ha, Arsenic jokes never get old."
Stewart went back to chewing his heart and I watched over Ramsey's and Zac's expressions as they tried to eat their's, although it was not exactly fair for Ramsey since his was all shrunken and withered, but Zac had it the worst it seemed. His heart looked absolutely disgusting and I watched as a pustule popped and a maggot crawled out of one of the ventricles. Closely observing Zac's heart quickly made my bloody piece of meat look like a feast in comparison and made the unexpected dinner slightly more tolerable.
After what seemed like hours, Stewart finally finished chewing his dinner, Ramsey was nourished by his, Zac was trying not to puke while finishing the last few pieces of hisand I was attempting to clean my face from the blood of mine.

The Greeter, The Cook and The Doctor Walk Into A Bar ... Part 75
"I see you finished the challenge ... I must admit, I am quite impressed you chose to continue on in your condition."
"My condition?"
"Yes. The wound and fatigue that you acquired from the first two challenges."
"Those were just puzzles. Puzzles are easy. This last room was a challenge. Seriously, where the hell did you find robots like that?"
"They came with the place."
" ... but I thought you were the native people to this place."
"People, yes. Inhabitants, no."
"How the hell did you win against them and take over."
"That is a story for another time. How about we go look at that leg of yours."
With those words the memory of the wound in my calf struck like lightning into the back of my head exploding in a thunderous headache. My stance faltered but I managed to stay on my feet. The old man was holding me up with his cane under my armpit. I stabilized and he threw the cane at me and began to walk away with no falter in his step. I was severely confused but grabbed the cane before it hit my nose and started to walk through the doors. I was not surprised to find yet another long poorly lit hallway. The old man was greatly ahead of me and in an attempt to catch up I nearly slipped and fell several times due to the cane sliding around the floor. It appeared to be more of a harm then help. Maybe that's why the old man was constantly limping, cause of this crazy cane. Eventually I managed to learn to control the cane and quickly caught up to the old man.
We entered a small room filled with many utensils and gadgets and papers all scattered all over the place.
"What is this place?"
"This is my office. Now hop on a table somewhere, let's look at that leg of yours."
"Wait .... you're the doctor?"
"Yes."
"Since when are doctors also the greeters. Isn't there different people for that, and you could have helped me with the leg."
"Well I'm not only the doctor and the greeter, and I could have helped you with the leg, yes, but only here can I neutralize the poison flowing through your veins."
"Let me guess. You are also the cook?"
"Don't speak such nonsense. We no longer need such necessities."
I was confused and absolutely lost.
"... What are you?"
"Your guide, companion, doctor .... whatever you wish me to be."
"Ok, well currently you can be my doctor but please tell me more, I am still quite confused about the whole situation."
"We have been stuck in this abandoned city for hundreds of years. The gods were not happy with our advances as a society and trapped us under the weight of the ocean."
"You keep saying 'We'. What is that all about?"
"I hold the memories and knowledge of all of our people. We have roamed this underwater prison for years upon years but when people begun to die the gods weren't happy. They believed we needed a harsher punishment and imprisoned us all in this body and allowed us to only materialize within the main alcove. Through which you entered."
"So how are you here now?"
"You remember that card?"
"Yea the soul card, or whatever that was."
"That is the soul of this body. It is the most important card, it gives you the ability to call us whenever you desire and we will assist you in whichever way you require."
"Is there an appearance option. I don't have anything against the old guy but old is not really my style."
"We can delve deeper into that at a later time. Now lie down and relax your leg. I need to wash it, it might hurt. The wound has started to close and I still have to remove the little pieces of the arrow that you didn't take out. You could have at least filed it apart. There was no need in breaking the arrow."
"Well, it seemed to be a smart enough idea at the time."
"This smart idea of your will cause much pain to you now, but to bring you some comfort your friends are looking for you. They will be here shortly."
"How would you posses such information."
"Well, when the gods decided to punish us and trap us here, the underworld became quite interested in our state of affairs. You know them, they're also outcasts and like to keep tabs on possible allies and we aren't stupid enough not to keep in touch with personages of such influence."
"I see, you keep in touch with the leaders of the underworld."
"Not the leaders, just some of the higher ups. The leaders are busy entities."
"Is it alright with you if I take the cane, it's quite badass."
"Not at all. We have no use for this place now, we now constantly roam the void until you choose to call for us."
" Is there a way that I can just constantly have you around? The whole void thing doesn't sound very pleasant."
"We would be quite grateful if you chose to do that. We are not looking forward to our bleak existence in the void."
"You are welcome to go wherever you want outside here. We will find a way to communicate some time later."
The old man continued to work on my leg. I felt something thick flow through my veins and make it's way throughout my body.
"The poison is slowly dying. You will be back to normal in some time and we can use the accelerator to speed up the healing of the leg. It should be find by the time your friends arrive."
